It is with great enthusiasm and anticipation that we extend an invitation to all African countries to participate in the esteemed AstroQuiz Africa 2024. Organised in collaboration with the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO), the African Astronomical Society (AfAS) and the IAU-GA Outreach and Education Committee, this initiative seeks to foster a spirit of scientific inquiry and astronomical exploration among learners aged 13-14 or in Grade 7 across the African continent.
AstroQuiz Africa presents an unparalleled opportunity for learners to engage in an intellectually stimulating competition that spans five rounds of astronomical challenges. The first four rounds will witness learners within each country vying for top honours, showcasing their knowledge and passion for astronomy. The pinnacle of this competition, the fifth and final round, will bring together the brightest minds from each participating country. These top winners will converge to compete in the ultimate showdown, vying for the prestigious title of AstroQuiz Africa Winner for 2024. Not only will this event offer a platform for friendly competition, but it will also celebrate the forthcoming International Astronomical Union-General Assembly, which will make history by being hosted on African soil in 2024 and will continue to mark our calendar thereafter.

The competition:
To join the AstroQuiz Africa, all you need is a mobile phone with minimal data connectivity. The ZAstronomy app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of users. Once you have downloaded the app, you can easily register to participate in the quiz directly through the application.
The best part? There are absolutely no costs involved in participating in the AstroQuiz Africa. Our goal is to make astronomy education accessible to all and provide innovative ways of making astronomy fun to learn.
Through the ZAstronomy app, participants will have access to comprehensive resources, study materials, and practice quizzes to help prepare for the main event. Additionally, we will be sharing informative videos and updates to guide you through the registration process and provide insights into the quiz format and topics.
